Every region of the state reported an increase in gas prices during the past week between one and four cents per gallon, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. Today’s statewide average price for regular unleaded is $3.79 a gallon, which is up three cents from last Thursday, 14 cents higher than a month ago, and 58 cents higher than the average last year on the same date.

In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular unleaded is $3.69, which is up three cents from a week ago, 16 cents higher than last month, and 67 cents higher than the price on this date last year. The Hilo average gas price is $3.91, which is up two cents from last week, 17 cents higher than last month, and 45 cents higher than on this date a year ago.

In Kahului, the average price is $3.79, which is up two cents compared to last week, five cents higher than last month, and 30 cents higher than on this date a year ago. Lihue’s average price for regular is $3.96, which is up a penny from last week, 10 cents higher than last month and 44 cents higher than a year ago today.

“Price increases have regained some momentum comparted to the prior week, reflecting an increase in global oil prices and demand,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaii general manager.  “Summer travel demand is picking up and commerce is increasing, and the price of oil and gasoline reflects that growing market.”
