Gas prices in most of Hawaii dropped slightly over the past week, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. The statewide average price for regular unleaded is $4.70, which is one cent lower than last week. The national average gas price is $3.10, which is 10 cents lower than last week.

In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular unleaded is $4.55, which is one cent lower than last week, six cents lower than last month, and 56 cents lower than the price on this date last year. The Hilo average gas price is $4.82, which is three cents lower than last week, four cents lower than last month, and 20 cents lower than on this date a year ago.

In Kahului, the average price of $4.82 is four cents higher than last week, two cents higher than last month, and 41 cents lower than a year ago. Lihue’s average price for regular is $5.23, which is three cents lower than last week, five cents lower than last month, and 28 cents lower than a year ago.

“Although local gas prices have fallen, some sizable drops in California pump prices have brought them even lower, making Hawaii the most expensive state for gasoline,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaii general manager.

AAA members can take advantage of discounted gas prices at participating Shell gas stations by joining the Shell Fuel Rewards® program.
