Hawaii gas prices increased slightly in urban areas and declined slightly in other parts of the state during the first week of lifted travel restrictions, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. Today’s statewide average price for regular unleaded is $3.28 a gallon, which is two cents more than last week, according to GasPrices.AAA.com.

In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular unleaded ended four weeks of unchanged prices and rose to $3.09 per gallon, which is two cents higher than last week , a penny more than a month ago and 45 cents lower than the price on this date last year. The Hilo average gas price is $3.49, which is one cent less than last week, the same as a month ago and 28 cents lower than on this date a year ago.

In Kahului, the average price is $3.52, unchanged from last week, three cents higher than last month, and 33 cents lower than on this date a year ago. Lihue’s average price for regular is $3.61, which is one cent lower than a week ago, one cent higher than last month and 25 cents lower than a year ago today.

“Gas prices in Honolulu inched up in the past week which may have been a result of increased travelers to the Oahu,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaii general manager.   “It may be too soon to call it a trend as prices have been fluctuating between 2-3 cents up and down for the past few weeks.  But we’ll keep watching.”
