Average gas prices around the state moved slightly or remain unchanged over the past week, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. Today’s statewide average price for regular unleaded is $3.23 a gallon, two cents lower compared to last week, up two cents from last month and down 42 cents from a year ago at this time, according to GasPrices.AAA.com.
In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular unleaded stands at $3.05 per gallon, which is two cents lower than last week, two cents higher than a month ago and 42 cents lower than the price on this date last year. The Hilo average gas price is $3.49, which is unchanged from last week, two cents more than a month ago and 28 cents lower than on this date a year ago.
In Kahului, the average price is $3.48, which is down one cent from last week, even with last month, and 35 cents lower than on this date a year ago. Lihue’s average price for regular is $3.60, which is unchanged from last Thursday, six cents higher than last month and 23 cents lower than a year ago today.
“Small 1-2 cent moves in gasoline prices averages seem to be a larger trend now throughout the nation because oil prices have remained stable and demand hasn’t changed much in recent weeks,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaii general manager. “Remember, if you haven’t been driving much in recent months, turn on your vehicle periodically, so the battery doesn’t run down and other engine parts stay lubricated.”
