Hawaii gas prices stayed the same or ticked up by a penny or two in most areas to start the year, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. Today’s statewide average price for regular unleaded is $3.29 a gallon, which is up one penny from last Thursday.
In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular unleaded is $3.12, which is the same as last week, two cents higher than last month, and 42 cents lower than the price on this date last year. The Hilo average gas price is $3.51, which is two cents higher than last week, three cents higher than last month, and 27 cents less than on this date a year ago.
In Kahului, the average price is $3.50, which is unchanged from last week, three cents higher than last month, and 34 cents lower than on this date a year ago. Lihue’s average price for regular is $3.65, which is two cents higher than last week, four cents higher than last month and 22 cents lower than a year ago today.
“The state’s mild demand continues to shelter it from larger price increases being experienced in other states,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaii general manager. “However, oil prices have been increasing in recent days, and if they continue to rise, we may see them impact retail prices locally.”
