Hawaii gas prices moved up slightly last week even as other states saw skyrocketing price increases during the continuing Middle East conflict, according to AAA Hawaii’s Weekend Gas Watch.
Today’s statewide average for a gallon of regular gasoline is $5.66, up two cents in a week, $1.16 higher than at this time last year and just a penny below the all-time record of $5.67 set on April 19, 2026. The national gas price average is $4.55, up 25 cents in a week and $1.40 higher than last year.
Washington surpassed Hawaii this week to become the second most expensive state for gasoline with a $5.76 statewide average price. California is the most expensive, with a statewide average of $6.16 today.
In Honolulu, the average price for regular unleaded is $5.62 per gallon, up two cents from last week and $1.21 higher than a year ago. In Hilo, drivers are paying $5.65 per gallon, up four cents from last week and 98 cents higher than a year ago. In Kahului, the average price is $5.69 per gallon, up one cent in a week and $1.18 higher than a year ago. In Lihue, the average is $5.94 per gallon, the same as last week and 85 cents higher than a year ago.
“Oil prices continue to hover near $100 a barrel, which puts upward pressure on prices at the pump,” said AAA spokesperson Kandace Redd. “Drivers can help manage fuel costs by combining trips, maintaining proper tire pressure, and driving at steady speeds. They can also use the free AAA mobile app to find the lowest gas prices nearby or compare prices before filling up. Even small adjustments in driving habits can add up over time.”
The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline. As of 9 a.m. on May 7, averages are:
