Hawaii gas prices continued hovering at average levels well above $4.50 a gallon for the fourth straight week in most areas, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. The average regular unleaded gas price for Hawaii is $4.78, which is the same as last week. The average national price is $3.57, which is seven cents lower than last Thursday.

In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular unleaded is $4.68, which is the same as last week, two cents lower than last month, and 49 cents lower than the price on this date last year. The Hilo average gas price is $4.76, which is four cents lower than last week, four cents lower than last month, and 57 cents lower than on this date a year ago.

In Kahului, the average price of $4.85 is the same as last week, one cent lower than last month and 57 cents lower than a year ago. Lihue’s average price for regular is $5.24, which is one cent higher than last week, the same as last month, and 31 cents lower than a year ago.

“Worldwide economic concerns are leading to lower oil prices, and gasoline demand across the U.S. reportedly has also dropped in the past week, but so far that has had little effect on prices locally,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaii general manager.

AAA members can take advantage of discounted gas prices at participating Shell gas stations by joining the Shell Fuel Rewards® program.
