Hawaii gas prices held steady or moved very little over the past week, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. The average regular unleaded gas price for Hawaii is $4.79, which is the same as last week. The average national price is $3.80, which is three cents lower than last Thursday.
In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular unleaded is $4.68, which is unchanged from last week, five cents higher than last month, and 52 cents lower than the price on this date last year. The Hilo average gas price is $4.90, which is also the same as last week, six cents higher than last month, and 33 cents lower than on this date a year ago.
In Kahului, the average price of $4.81 is one cent lower than last week, one cent lower than last month, and 69 cents lower than a year ago. Lihue’s average price for regular is $5.30, which is one cent higher than last week, five cents higher than last month, and 33 cents lower than a year ago.
“Oil prices surged to their highest levels since last November because of continued concerns about OPEC oil production cutbacks and the possibility of hurricanes disrupting Gulf Coast refinery production.,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaii general manager. “So far, however, local gas prices have not been affected.”
