Honolulu gas prices dropped over the past week, but other areas of the states experienced a mix of declines, increases and stability, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. Today’s statewide average price is $3.63 a gallon, which is one cent less than last week, two cents less than a month ago and 37 cents higher than on this date a year ago, according to GasPrices.AAA.com.
In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular is $3.49, which is down two cents from last week, down four cents from a month ago and 38 cents higher than on this date last year. The Hilo average price is $3.77, which is one cent higher than a week ago, one cent higher than on this date last month and 45 cents higher than on this date a year ago.
In Kahului, the average price is $3.81, which is two cents lower than last Thursday, three cents lower than a month ago and 27 cents higher than on this date a year ago. Lihue’s average price for regular is $3.87, which is the same as last Thursday, one cent higher than last month and 37 cents higher than a year ago today.
“We have seen gas prices drop around the U.S. on news of lower demand and also as the result of lower oil prices,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaii general manager.
