Average gas prices in most regions eased downward in most regions compared to last week, with Honolulu dropping below $4, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. The average price for Hawaii is $4.07, down a penny from last week. The average national price is $3.19, up a penny from last week.
In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular unleaded is $3.99, which is down a penny from a week ago, down two cents from last month, and 92 cents higher than the price on this date last year. The Hilo average gas price is $4.11, which dropped two cents from last week, is one cent lower than last month, and 62 cents higher than on this date a year ago.
In Kahului, the average price is $4.13, which is up two cents compared to last week, three cents higher than last month, and 64 cents higher than on this date a year ago. Lihue’s average price for regular is $4.31, which is down a penny from last week, four cents lower than last month and 71 cents higher than a year ago today.
“After remaining relatively flat for a number of weeks, we’re seeing most regions experience small price decreases,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaii general manager. “Consistent oil prices and a declining demand should point to lower retail prices going into the fall.”
