Hawaii drivers have seen either a small decrease or no change in average gas price this past week due in part to oil prices remaining below $70 per barrel, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. The average price for Hawaii is $4.08, down a penny from last week. The average national price is $3.15, down three cents from last week.
In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular unleaded is $4.00, which is down one cent from a week ago, down one cent from last month, and 94 cents higher than the price on this date last year. The Hilo average gas price is $4.13, which is the same price for four consecutive weeks, three cents higher than last month, and 64 cents higher than on this date a year ago.
In Kahului, the average price is $4.13, which is unchanged for two weeks, five cents higher than last month, and 64 cents higher than on this date a year ago. Lihue’s average price for regular is $4.32, which also is unchanged for two weeks, one cent higher than last month and 71 cents higher than a year ago today.
“Lower oil prices and demand after the summer travel season has softened gas prices in Hawaii,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaii general manager. “Prices have been relatively flat for three weeks in many areas, so we would expect them to drop more unless oil prices increase.”
