Despite rising oil prices internationally, gas prices in Hawaii have moved no more than a penny or two in either direction, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch.  The average price for Hawaii is $4.34, unchanged from last week.  The average national price is $3.32, up two cents from a week ago.

In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular unleaded is $4.24, which is unchanged from last week, two cents higher a month ago, and $1.08 higher than the price on this date last year. The Hilo average gas price is $4.32, down a penny from last week and a month ago, and 80 cents higher than on this date a year ago.

In Kahului, the average price is $4.53, which is up a penny compared to last week, the same as last month, and 99 cents higher than on this date a year ago. Lihue’s average price for regular is $4.65, which is up two cents from last week, two cents higher than last month and 99 cents higher than a year ago today.

“Continued concerns about how the Omicron variant may impact tourism and therefore, the demand for gasoline, seems to be muting the effect here of rising oil prices,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaii general manager.

Motorists can find current gas prices along their route with the free AAA Mobile app for iPhone, iPad and Android. The app can also be used to map a route, find AAA discounts, book a hotel and access AAA Roadside Assistance. Learn more at AAA.com/Mobile.
