Average gas prices around the state remained within a penny of last week’s prices, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. Today’s statewide average price for regular unleaded is $3.24 a gallon, which is unchanged compared to last week, up four cents from last month and down 42 cents from a year ago at this time, according to GasPrices.AAA.com.

In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular unleaded rose a penny to $3.07 per gallon compared to last week and is three cents higher than a month ago and 47 cents lower than the price on this date last year. The Hilo average gas price is $3.50, which is one cent higher than last week, two cents more than a month ago and 28 cents lower than on this date a year ago.

In Kahului, the average price is $3.49, which is unchanged for the prior two weeks, two cents higher than a month ago and 35 cents lower than on this date a year ago. Lihue’s average price for regular is $3.59, which is one cent higher than last Thursday, three cents higher than last month and 26 cents lower than a year ago today.

“Oil prices have ranged in the same price band between $38 and $42 per barrel since July 1,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaii general manager. “Until we see a significant change in the price of oil or an increase in demand, I expect gasoline prices to remain in the same narrow range.”
