Hawaii gas prices held steady in the last week as a near-record number of Pacific State residents prepared for their Independence Day getaways, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. The average regular unleaded gas price for Hawaii is $4.73, which is the same as last week. The average national price is $3.55, which is three cents lower than last Thursday.
In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular unleaded is $4.62 which is the same as last week, three cents lower than last month, and 87 cents lower than the price on this date last year. The Hilo average gas price is $4.76, which is also the same as last week, three cents more than last month, and 87 cents lower than on this date a year ago.
In Kahului, the average price of $4.81 is unchanged from last week and last month, and 93 cents lower than a year ago. Lihue’s average price for regular is $5.22, which is the same as last week, two cents lower than last month, and 65 cents lower than a year ago.
“Holiday travelers will be paying much lower gas prices for their Fourth of July vacations than last year at this time,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaii general manager. “Those taking a road trip this summer anywhere in the U.S. can make sure they are not overpaying for gasoline by using a tool such as the free AAA Mobile app to shop around virtually for the lowest gas price near them.”
