As a record number of Americans get ready to travel to Hawaii and other locations during the year-end holiday period, local gas prices are remaining steady, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. Today’s statewide average price is $3.66 a gallon, which is one cent lower than last week, unchanged from a month ago and seven cents higher than on this date a year ago, according to GasPrices.AAA.com.
In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular is $3.53, which is one cent lower than last week, one cent lower than a month ago and nine cents higher than on this date last year. The Hilo average price is $3.78, which is one cent higher than a week ago, unchanged from this date last month and 18 cents higher than on this date a year ago.
In Kahului, the average price is $3.84, which is one cent higher than last Thursday, one cent higher than a month ago and 11 cents lower than on this date a year ago. Lihue’s average price for regular is $3.88, which is one cent higher than last Thursday, two cents higher than last month and ten cents higher than a year ago today.
“Local residents traveling to other U.S. states for the holidays will see significantly lower gas prices than in our state except in California, where average gas prices are still higher in most areas than in Honolulu,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaii general manager.
