Hawaii’s average gas prices have remained level in most regions during the run up to New Year’s Day, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. The average price for Hawaii is $4.34, up a penny from last week. The average national price is $3.29, unchanged from last week.
In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular unleaded is $4.23, which is unchanged for three weeks, four cents lower than a month ago, and $1.11 higher than the price on this date last year. The Hilo average gas price is $4.34, unchanged for two weeks, three cents lower than last month, and 83 cents higher than on this date a year ago.
In Kahului, the average price is $4.51, which is up a penny compared to last week, three cents higher than last month, and $1.01 higher than on this date a year ago. Lihue’s average price for regular is $4.63, which is unchanged compared to last week, two cents higher than last month and a dollar higher than a year ago today.
“Oil prices have been climbing for a few days which might have impacted gas prices, but with both COVID cases increasing and a spate of flight cancellations reducing demand, gas prices have remained flat for now,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaii general manager. “We will have to see how much more of an impact the Omicron variant of COVID has on business and travel.”
