Following a spring and summer of steadily increasing gas prices, Hawaii drivers have seen a pause at the pump in recent days with average prices in many regions remaining unchanged or changing by small amounts, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. The average price for Hawaii is $4.09, down a penny from last week. The average national price is $3.19, unchanged from a week ago.
In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular unleaded is $4.02, which is the same price as one week ago, five cents higher than last month, and 96 cents higher than the price on this date last year. The Hilo average gas price is $4.13, which is the same price for two consecutive weeks, seven cents higher than last month, and 64 cents higher than on this date a year ago.
In Kahului, the average price is $4.13, which is one cent more compared to last week, eight cents higher than last month, and 64 cents higher than on this date a year ago. Lihue’s average price for regular is $4.32, which is three cents less than last week, three cents higher than last month and 73 cents higher than a year ago today.
“Across the board, wholesale gasoline and oil prices have remained relatively flat during the past two weeks because of growing concerns over increased COVID cases and anticipation of higher oil production in the coming weeks,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaii general manager.
