Gas prices in Hawaii have held steady in recent weeks after dropping to some of their lowest levels of the year, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. The statewide average price for regular unleaded is $4.46, which is one cent lower than last week and 21 cents lower than this time last year. The average national price is $3.16, which is two cents higher than last week and 29 cents less than a year ago.
In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular unleaded gas is $4.38, which is the same as last week and 14 cents lower than a year ago. The Hilo average gas price is $4.65, which is also the same as last week and 23 cents lower than a year ago.
The average price in Kahului is $4.47, which is four cents less than last week and 25 cents lower than a year ago. Lihue’s average regular price is $5.01, which is two cents lower than last week and 24 cents lower than a year ago.
“Crude oil prices are hovering in the range of $65 a barrel, which is helping gas prices stay lower than last year,” said Liane Sumida, general manager of AAA Hawaii. “Honolulu drivers are paying less on average for gas right now than those in Seattle, Los Angeles, San Diego and San Francisco.”
AAA members can take advantage of discounted gas prices at participating Shell gas stations by joining the Shell Fuel Rewards® program.
