Gas prices remained stable in Hawaii over the last week, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. The average regular unleaded gas price for Hawaii is $4.88, which is the same as last week. The average national price is $3.37, which is two cents lower than last Thursday.
In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular unleaded is $4.80, which is unchanged from last week, six cents lower than last month, and 28 cents higher than the price on this date last year. The Hilo average gas price is $4.86, which is one cent lower than last week, six cents lower than last month, and 25 cents higher than on this date a year ago.
In Kahului, the average price of $4.90 is one cent lower than last week, six cents lower than last month and 17 cents higher than a year ago. Lihue’s average price for regular is $5.30, which is the same as last week, eight cents lower than last month, and 44 cents higher than a year ago.
“It is possible within a week or two that the California state average gas price will move higher than Hawaii because of refinery issues there,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaii general manager. “Honolulu and Hilo drivers are already paying less at the pump on average than Los Angeles, San Francisco and San Diego drivers.”
