The national average is $4.22 per gallon, down 5 cents from last week and up $1.19 from a year ago. At $5.65 per gallon, Hawaii has the nation’s second-highest average gas price, behind California at $5.94. Nevada ranks third at $5.25.

In Honolulu, regular unleaded averages $5.58 per gallon, unchanged from last week and $1.19 higher than a year ago. Hilo’s average is $5.69, up 1 cent from last week and $1.03 higher than a year ago.

In Kahului, the average is $5.74 per gallon, up 1 cent from last week and $1.28 higher than a year ago. Lihue’s average is $5.87, unchanged from last week and 92 cents higher than a year ago.

“With gas prices still higher than a year ago, Hawaii drivers can save fuel by comparing prices, combining errands, and planning routes in advance,” said Kandace Redd, AAA Hawaii spokesperson. “As drivers fuel up for the weekend, we’re also reminding motorists to use extra caution during Saturday’s Halloween festivities and after daylight saving time ends Sunday. Drivers should slow down, avoid distractions, and watch for pedestrians.”

The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline. As of 9 a.m. on Oct. 29, averages are:
