As Hawaii gas prices hovered at similar levels for more than a month, gas prices throughout much of the rest of the U.S. have been dropping , according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. The average regular unleaded gas price for Hawaii is $4.78, which has been the same for the past four weeks. The average national price is $3.54, which is three cents lower than last Thursday.

In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular unleaded is $4.68, which is the same as last week, one cent lower than last month, and 52 cents lower than the price on this date last year. The Hilo average gas price is $4.80, which is four cents higher than last week, two cents higher than last month, and 56 cents lower than on this date a year ago.

In Kahului, the average price of $4.84 is one cent lower than last week, the same as last month and 61 cents lower than a year ago. Lihue’s average price for regular is $5.23, which is one cent lower than last week, one cent higher than last month, and 37 cents lower than a year ago.

“While gas prices in Hawaii have been hovering for the past month, California drivers have seen dropping gas prices and now their state average price is just three cents higher than Hawaii,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaii general manager. “If oil prices worldwide continue to stay lower in coming weeks, Hawaii gas prices could begin dropping also.”

AAA members can take advantage of discounted gas prices at participating Shell gas stations by joining the Shell Fuel Rewards® program.
