Hawaii gas prices remained relatively unchanged over the past week – except for a tax increase on the Big Island -  as a record number of travelers are taking trips over the July 4th holiday, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. Today’s statewide average price is $3.64 a gallon, which is the same as last Thursday, unchanged from a month ago and ten cents lower than on this date a year ago, according to GasPrices.AAA.com

In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular is $3.52, which is the same as last Thursday, also a penny lower than on this date a month ago and eight cents lower than on this date last year. The Hilo average price is $3.75, which is up two cents from last Thursday, three cents more than on this date last month and six cents lower than on this date a year ago.

In Kahului, the average price is $3.83, which is unchanged from last Thursday, one cent lower than on this date last month and 25 cents lower than on this date a year ago.  Lihue’s average price for regular is $3.84, which is two cents higher than last Thursday, the same as on this date last month and five cents lower than a year ago today.  Wailuku’s average is $3.83, which is unchanged from last Thursday, one cent lower than on this date a month ago and 25 cents lower than on this date a year ago.

“The island of Hawaii enacted a four-cent gas tax increase on Monday, so that has increased prices slightly there,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaii general manager. “Otherwise, prices are fairly stable. Unless something occurs dramatically with the price of oil, we expect prices to remain in this price range.”

Motorists can find current gas prices along their route with the free AAA Mobile app for iPhone, iPad and Android. The app can also be used to map a route, find AAA discounts, book a hotel and access AAA Roadside Assistance. Learn more at AAA.com/mobile.
