Average gas prices in most regions remained the same compared to last week, with Honolulu staying just under $4 a gallon, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. The average price for Hawaii is $4.07, unchanged from last week. The average national price is $3.19, also unchanged from last week.
In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular unleaded is $3.99, which is the same price as a week ago and a month ago, and 92 cents higher than the price on this date last year. The Hilo average gas price is $4.13, which increased two cents from last week, is the same as last month, and 64 cents higher than on this date a year ago.
In Kahului, the average price is $4.13, which is unchanged compared to last week, one cent lower than last month, and 65 cents higher than on this date a year ago. Lihue’s average price for regular is $4.32, which is up a penny from last week, one cent higher than last month and 72 cents higher than a year ago today.
“Gas prices have stayed quite stable for a few weeks due to relatively flat oil prices and declining demand,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaii general manager. “We’ve seen oil prices go above $70 per barrel in recent days, so we’ll see which has a greater impact on local gas prices – higher oil costs or lower demand.”
