AAA Hawaii: Gas Prices Remain Flat

Gas Prices

Hawaii drivers continue to see a pause in gas price increases due in part to dropping oil prices world-wide and the end of summer travel season, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch.  The average price for Hawaii is $4.09, down a penny from last week.  The average national price is $3.19, unchanged from a week ago.

In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular unleaded is $4.01, which down one cent as one week ago, unchanged from last month, and 96 cents higher than the price on this date last year. The Hilo average gas price is $4.13, which is the same price for three consecutive weeks, five cents higher than last month, and 65 cents higher than on this date a year ago.

In Kahului, the average price is $4.13, which is unchanged compared to last week, five cents higher than last month, and 65 cents higher than on this date a year ago. Lihue’s average price for regular is $4.32, which also is unchanged from last week, two cents lower than last month and 72 cents higher than a year ago today.

“Oil prices continue to drop in reaction to an increasing number of COVID-19 cases which has caused a pullback in commerce in some major economies like China,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaii general manager. “We’ll have to see if this trend brings down local prices in the coming days.”

Motorists can find current gas prices along their route with the free AAA Mobile app for iPhone, iPad and Android. The app can also be used to map a route, find AAA discounts, book a hotel and access AAA Roadside Assistance. Learn more at AAA.com/Mobile.
