Hawaii gas prices rose just slightly over the past week as most other U.S. states saw significant price jumps related to the Middle East conflict that began last weekend, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch.
Today’s statewide average price for regular unleaded is $4.43 a gallon, three cents higher than last week and 11 cents lower than this time last year. By comparison, the national average is $3.25, up 27 cents from last week and 15 cents higher than a year ago.
Crude oil prices have risen to the mid-$70 per barrel range, bringing the national gas price average to the same level it was in early April of 2025. Spring typically brings higher gas prices as demand rises and summer-blend gasoline production begins. The last time the national average made a similar weekly jump was in March 2022, during the start of the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Gas prices vary across Hawaii. In Honolulu, today’s average for regular unleaded is $4.32, up three cents from last week and down 15 cents from a year ago. Hilo’s average is $4.65, three cents higher than last week and one cent lower than a year ago.
Kahului’s average price is $4.51, seven cents higher than last week and unchanged from this time last year. Lihue’s average is $4.90, one cent higher than last week and 24 cents lower than a year ago.
“While Hawaii continues to see some of the highest prices in the nation, we’re encouraging drivers to stay informed and make smart choices as market conditions change,” said Kandace Redd, AAA Hawaii spokesperson. “Global tensions can influence crude and gasoline prices here at home, but AAA is here to help drivers find ways to save. Using the free AAA Mobile app, motorists can quickly compare local station prices and locate the most affordable fuel nearby, helping stretch their dollars further at the pump.”
