Hawaii gas prices moved up slightly over the past week in most areas but are on track to end the year at the lowest level since 2017, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. Today’s statewide average price for regular unleaded is $3.28 a gallon, which one cent more than last Thursday.
In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular unleaded is $3.11, which is two cents higher than last week, three cents higher than last month, and 42 cents lower than the price on this date last year. The Hilo average gas price is $3.50, which is two cents higher than last week, one cent higher than last month, and 27 cents less than on this date a year ago.
In Kahului, the average price is $3.49, which is one cent more than last week, two cents lower than last month, and 35 cents lower than on this date a year ago. Lihue’s average price for regular is $3.62, which is the same for three weeks in a row, two cents higher than last month and 27 cents lower than a year ago today.
“While AAA predicts holiday travel will be very light this year due to the pandemic, we expect there is more demand for fuel over the holidays than in previous weeks,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaii general manager. “The year-to-date average price for gasoline in Hawaii is $3.32 – the lowest annual average since 2017, when it was $3.11 per gallon.”
