Following the Thanksgiving holiday, Hawaii’s average gas prices in Hawaii either remained flat or inched up a penny over the past week as the price of oil continued to fall, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch.  The average price for Hawaii is $4.36, unchanged from last week. The average national price is $3.38, down two cents from last week.

In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular unleaded is $4.27, which is unchanged from a week ago, two cents higher than a month ago, and $1.18 higher than the price on this date last year. The Hilo average gas price is $4.37, which is up a penny from a week ago, three cents higher than last month, and 87 cents higher than on this date a year ago.

In Kahului, the average price is $4.51, which is up one penny compared to last week, 12 cents higher than last month, and exactly a dollar higher than on this date a year ago. Lihue’s average price for regular is $4.61, which is one cent higher compared to last week, six cents higher than last month and a dollar higher than a year ago today.

“The U.S. benchmark oil price has dropped more than $20 per barrel in the past month, based largely in reaction to a new COVID variant that is being detected in many countries,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaii general manager. “We’ll have to see if the lower oil price remains before we see retail prices drop as well.”
