Gas prices moved in opposite directions or held steady over the past week in various areas of Hawaii, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. The statewide average price for regular unleaded is $4.68, which is one cent higher than last week. The national average gas price is $3.098 which is one cent lower than last week.
In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular unleaded is $4.53, which is the same as last week, two cents lower than last month and 46 cents lower than the price on this date last year. The Hilo average gas price is $4.78, which is one cent lower than last week, five cents lower than last month and 20 cents lower than on this date a year ago.
In Kahului, the average price of $4.81 is five cents higher than last week, two cents higher than last month and 21 cents lower than a year ago. Lihue’s average price for regular is $5.20, which is the same as last week, six cents lower than last month and 22 cents lower than a year ago.
“Oil prices continue to hover in the $70-$80 per barrel range, and so far this year are not having a significant impact on prices at the pump,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaii general manager.
