Hawaii gas prices moved up quickly over the past week in many areas in response to higher oil prices worldwide, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. The average regular unleaded gas price for Hawaii is $4.84, which is four cents higher than last week. The average national price is $3.87, which is one cent higher than last Thursday.

In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular unleaded is $4.74, which is six cents higher than last week, eight cents higher than last month, and 43 cents lower than the price on this date last year. The Hilo average gas price is $4.97, which is six cents higher than last week, 11 cents higher than last month, and 20 cents lower than on this date a year ago.

In Kahului, the average price of $4.80 is two cents lower than last week, the same as last month, and 67 cents lower than a year ago. Lihue’s average price for regular is $5.32, which is two cents higher than last week, two cents higher than last month, and 30 cents lower than a year ago.

“Higher oil prices and some supply issues have caused sharp spikes in other Western states, particularly in California where the state average price of $5.79 is more than a dollar higher than the Hawaii state average,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaii general manager.

AAA members can take advantage of discounted gas prices at participating Shell gas stations by joining the Shell Fuel Rewards® program.
