Gas prices are increasing and, in some islands, have remained the same but on average gas prices are slightly higher, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. The statewide average price for regular unleaded is $4.72, two cents higher than last week. The national average gas price is $3.63, six cents higher than last week.
In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular unleaded is $4.60, three cents higher than last week, two cents higher than last month, and nine cents lower than the price on this date last year. The Hilo average gas price is $4.85, which is four cents higher than last week four cents higher than last month, and seven cents higher than a year ago.
In Kahului, the average price of $4.78 is three cents higher than last week, three cents lower than last month, and six cents lower than a year ago. Lihue’s average price for regular is $5.24, which is four cents higher than last week, five cents higher than last month, and two cents higher than a year ago. “Gas prices in Hawaii are slightly increasing statewide but not as significantly as the nation's increase," said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaii general manager.
