Average gas prices in most regions inched up in some regions compared to last week, with Honolulu hitting $4 a gallon again, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch.  The average price for Hawaii is $4.08, up a penny from last week.  The average national price is $3.19, also unchanged from last week.

In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular unleaded is $4 which is up a penny from a week ago and a month ago, and 93 cents higher than the price on this date last year. The Hilo average gas price is $4.13, which is the same as last week, three cents higher than last month, and 64 cents higher than on this date a year ago.

In Kahului, the average price is $4.14, which is up one cent compared to last week, one cent higher than last month, and 65 cents higher than on this date a year ago. Lihue’s average price for regular is $4.32, which is unchanged compared to last week and last month and 73 cents higher than a year ago today.

“Higher oil prices in the mid-$70 range seem to have caught up with gasoline pricing in Hawaii,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaii general manager. “Average prices have increased or stayed the same during a season when we would expect to see prices decline.  AAA Hawaii recommends drivers smooth out their driving style, combine errands and take advantage of discounts such as the Fuel Rewards Program at Shell for AAA members to save money on gas.”

Motorists can find current gas prices along their route with the free AAA Mobile app for iPhone, iPad and Android. The app can also be used to map a route, find AAA discounts, book a hotel and access AAA Roadside Assistance. Learn more at
