Hawaii gas prices stayed stable over the past week even as oil prices worldwide moved up to their highest levels of this year, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. The average regular unleaded gas price for Hawaii is $4.80, which is one cent higher than last week. The average national price is $3.86, which is six cents higher than last Thursday.
In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular unleaded is $4.68, which is unchanged from last week, two cents higher than last month, and 51 cents lower than the price on this date last year. The Hilo average gas price is $4.91, which is one cent higher than last week, six cents higher than last month, and 29 cents lower than on this date a year ago.
In Kahului, the average price of $4.82 is one cent higher than last week, one cent lower than last month, and 65 cents lower than a year ago. Lihue’s average price for regular is $5.30, which is the same as last week, three cents higher than last month, and 32 cents lower than a year ago.
“In addition to OPEC production cuts pushing oil prices up, widespread flooding in Libya has also caused concern about oil production there, putting additional upward pressure on oil prices,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaii general manager. “Other parts of the country have seen significant pump price increases in the last week both because of increased oil prices and other issues.”
