AAA Hawaii: Gas Prices Hold Steady As Oil Prices Plummet

Hawaii gas prices remained largely unchanged over the past week but could see drops as a result of oil prices plummeting this week, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. Today’s statewide average price is $3.58 a gallon, which is the same as last week, nine cents less than a month ago and 29 cents higher than on this date a year ago, according to GasPrices.AAA.com.

In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular is $3.45, which is the same as last week, down eight cents from a month ago and 31 cents higher than on this date last year. The Hilo average price is $3.72, which is one cent lower than a week ago, two cents lower than on this date last month and 33 cents higher than on this date a year ago.

In Kahului, the average price is $3.75, which is the same as last Thursday, 14 cents lower than a month ago and 18 cents higher than on this date a year ago.  Lihue’s average price for regular is $3.86, which is one cent lower than last Thursday, unchanged from last month and 40 cents higher than a year ago today.

“Gas prices are in a holding pattern but it appears they could be headed downward soon as long as demand fears related to the Covid-19 coronavirus continue to depress oil prices,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaii general manager.
