Hawaii gas prices are still more than 20 cents a gallon higher than last year despite a more than 15 percent drop in oil prices compared to this date last year, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. Today’s statewide average price is $3.57 a gallon, which is one cent lower than last week, six cents less than a month ago and 26 cents higher than on this date a year ago, according to GasPrices.AAA.com.

In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular is $3.44, which is one cent lower than last week, five cents lower than a month ago and 27 cents higher than on this date last year. The Hilo average price is $3.71, which is one cent lower than a week ago, five cents lower than on this date last month and 29 cents higher than on this date a year ago.

In Kahului, the average price is $3.75, which is the same as last Thursday, seven cents lower than a month ago and 18 cents higher than on this date a year ago.  Lihue’s average price for regular is $3.86, which is the same as last Thursday, also unchanged from last month and 34 cents higher than a year ago today.

“We expect that prices will come down in coming weeks if oil prices stay low,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaii general manager.
