Gas prices finally started dropping throughout the state over the last couple of weeks, two months after prices began plunging in other parts of the U.S., according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. The average regular unleaded gas price for Hawaii is $5.15, which is two cents lower than last Thursday. The average national price is $3.19, which is 13 cents lower than a week ago.
In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular unleaded is $5.11, which is two cents lower than last week, seven cents lower than last month, and 89 cents higher than the price on this date last year. The Hilo average gas price is $5.00, which is seven cents lower than last week, five cents lower than last month, and 66 cents higher than on this date a year ago.
In Kahului, the average price of $5.22 is three cents lower than last week, six cents lower than last month and 68 cents higher than a year ago. Lihue’s average price for regular is $5.50, which is three cents lower than last week, four cents lower than last month, and 87 cents higher than a year ago.
“Oil prices have dropped to their lowest levels of 2022 in the last couple of weeks, so we would expect additional pump price drops throughout the state,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaii general manager. “Seeking out the least expensive gas stations on the islands can really save a lot of money right now – there are a few stations selling fuel for less than $4.20 a gallon. Use an online tool such as the free AAA Mobile app to make sure you are not overpaying for gas.”
AAA members can also take advantage of discounted gas prices at participating Shell gas stations by joining the Shell Fuel Rewards® program.
