Island gas prices continue to move down moderately, while at a national level they’re up two cents compared to this day last week according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. The average regular unleaded gas price for Hawaii is $4.69, which is one cent lower than last week. The average national price is $3.58, which is two cents higher than last Thursday.
In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular unleaded is $4.56 which is two cents lower than last week, six cents lower than last month, and 95 cents lower than the price on this date last year. The Hilo average gas price is $4.72, which is four cents lower than last week, four cents lower than last month, and 91 cents lower than on this date a year ago.
In Kahului, the average price of $4.81 is the same as last week as well as last month, and 97 cents lower than a year ago. Lihue’s average price for regular is $5.20, which is the same as last week, two cents lower than last month, and 64 cents lower than a year ago.
“Demand for fuel remains strong as summer road trips are in full swing,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaii general manager. “The good news for many drivers is that they’re saving a little at the pump this week. However, with rising crude oil prices and strong demand for fuel, price fluctuations remain possible .”
