Gas prices remain elevated across Hawaii, with drivers continuing to pay some of the highest prices in the country, according to AAA Hawaii's Weekend Gas Watch.
Today's statewide average price for a gallon of regular gasoline in Hawaii is $5.46, up four cents from last week and 99 cents higher than this time last year. The national average price for a gallon of regular gasoline is $4.09, unchanged from last week and 95 cents higher than this time last year.
At $5.46 per gallon, Hawaii has the second-highest average gasoline price in the nation. California has the highest average at $5.64 per gallon, while Washington ranks third at $5.11 per gallon.
In Honolulu, the average price for regular unleaded is $5.39 per gallon, up two cents from last week and $1 higher than this time last year. Drivers in Hilo are paying an average of $5.54 per gallon, up one cent from last week and 88 cents higher than this time last year.
The average price in Kahului is $5.53 per gallon, up 15 cents from last week and $1.02 higher than this time last year. In Lihue, drivers are paying an average of $5.78 per gallon, up two cents from last week and 76 cents higher than this time last year.
"While Hawaii drivers are paying some of the highest gas prices in the country, prices have remained relatively stable compared to the sharp increases we saw earlier this spring," said AAA Hawaii spokesperson Kandace Redd. "Global oil market uncertainty and higher crude oil costs continue to keep upward pressure on prices, so drivers should expect gas prices to remain elevated in the weeks ahead. Shopping around for the lowest-priced station and combining errands into one trip can help offset higher fuel costs."
The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline. As of 9 a.m. on July 30, averages are:
