Hawaii gas prices backed down slightly last week along with many other areas of the U.S. as the Middle East conflict continues to affect oil prices, according to AAA Hawaii’s Weekend Gas Watch.
Today’s statewide average for a gallon of regular gasoline is $5.64, which is down two cents from last week, $1.14 higher than at this time last year and three cents below the all-time record of $5.67 set on April 19, 2026. The national gas price average is $4.53, which is two cents lower than last week and $1.35 higher than last year.
Hawaii continues to be the third most expensive state for gasoline behind California, with a $6.14 average price today, and Washington, with an average price of $5.77 today.
In Honolulu, the average price for regular unleaded is $5.61 per gallon, down a penny from last week and $1.20 higher than a year ago. In Hilo, drivers are paying $5.63 per gallon, which is two cents less than last week and 97 cents higher than a year ago. In Kahului, the average price is $5.67 per gallon, two cents lower than last week and $1.16 higher than a year ago. In Lihue, the average is $5.93 per gallon, one cent lower than last week and 84 cents higher than a year ago.
“Despite the increased costs from higher gas prices, AAA Hawaii is projecting an increase in the number of Memorial Day travelers at the end of this month,” said AAA spokesperson Kandace Redd. “We have seen in prior years that high gas prices don’t necessarily deter travelers, who will often economize in other ways to take a holiday trip.”
The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline. As of 9 a.m. on May 14, averages are:
