Hawaii continues to have some of the highest gas prices in the nation; however, drivers are seeing a slight decrease at the pump.
According to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch, today’s statewide average for regular unleaded stands at $4.39 per gallon. That’s one cent lower than last week and 16 cents below last year. By comparison, the national average is $2.94, up five cents from last week but 20 cents lower last year.
In Honolulu, the average price for regular unleaded is $4.29 per gallon — unchanged from last week and 17 cents lower compared to this time last year. In Hilo, the average is $4.61 per gallon, down one cent from last week and four cents below last year’s level.
In Kahului, the average price is $4.43 per gallon. That’s five cents less than last week and 12 cents lower than a year ago. Lihue’s average price is $4.89 per gallon, unchanged from last week but 31 cents below the same time last year.
“Gas prices in Hawaii remain high compared to the national average, but today’s small decreases show that prices can fluctuate,” said Kandace Redd, Senior Public Affairs Specialist at AAA Hawaii. “We encourage drivers to keep an eye on weekly trends, as even minor changes can help with budgeting at the pump.”
