Hawaii’s average gas prices in Hawaii remained flat or dropped a couple cents over the past week as the price of oil hovers at about $72 per barrel, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch.  The average price for Hawaii is $4.34, down two cents from last week. The average national price is $3.32, down two cents from last week.

In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular unleaded is $4.23, which is unchanged from last week, four cents lower than a month ago, and $1.13 higher than the price on this date last year. The Hilo average gas price is $4.34, which is down two cents from a week ago, two cents higher than last month, and 84 cents higher than on this date a year ago.

In Kahului, the average price is $4.52, which is down a penny compared to last week, seven cents higher than last month, and $1.01 higher than on this date a year ago. Lihue’s average price for regular is $4.62, which is down a penny compared to last week, five cents higher than last month and $1.01 higher than a year ago today.

“The U.S. benchmark oil price remains stuck in the low $70 per barrel range, and gas prices seem to be dropping more slowly as the market tries to see whether the new Omicron variant of COVID has a big impact on travel and business plans,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaii general manager.
