Hawaii’s average gas prices in Hawaii fell or inched up over the past week as the price of oil continued to fall, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. The average price for Hawaii is $4.34, down two cents from last week. The average national price is $3.34, down four cents from last week. In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular unleaded is $4.23, which is down four cents from last week, three cents lower than a month ago, and $1.14 higher than the price on this date last year. The Hilo average gas price is $4.36, which is down a penny from a week ago, a penny higher than last month, and 87 cents higher than on this date a year ago. In Kahului, the average price is $4.53, which is up two cents compared to last week, nine cents higher than last month, and $1.02 higher than on this date a year ago. Lihue’s average price for regular is $4.63, which is two cents higher compared to last week, five cents higher than last month and $1.01 higher than a year ago today. “The U.S. benchmark oil price remains more than $20 per barrel off its high price earlier in the fall, and continues to trend down slowly,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaii general manager. “We are seeing the result of lower oil prices at the pump in some regions of the state, while others haven’t yet been affected.” Motorists can find current gas prices along their route with the free AAA Mobile app for iPhone, iPad and Android.
