Lower oil prices and demand helped to push down gas prices in most local areas last week, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. Today’s statewide average price is $3.61 a gallon, which is two cents less than last week, five cents less than a month ago and 34 cents higher than on this date a year ago, according to GasPrices.AAA.com.
In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular is $3.46, which is down three cents from last week, down eight cents from a month ago and 35 cents higher than on this date last year. The Hilo average price is $3.72, which is five cents lower than a week ago, three cents lower than on this date last month and 39 cents higher than on this date a year ago.
In Kahului, the average price is $3.83, which is two cents higher than last Thursday, unchanged from a month ago and 21 cents higher than on this date a year ago. Lihue’s average price for regular is $3.85, which is two cents less than last Thursday, one cent lower than last month and 37 cents higher than a year ago today.
“Hawaii gas prices could drop further in coming weeks if oil and gasoline demand in Asia plunges due to the coronavirus epidemic,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaii general manager.
