Gas prices dropped in most areas of Hawaii last week, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. The average regular unleaded gas price for Hawaii is $4.90, which is four cents lower than last week. The average national price is $3.44, which is six cents lower than last Thursday.
In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular unleaded is $4.81, which is five cents lower than last week, 14 cents lower than last month, and 49 cents higher than the price on this date last year. The Hilo average gas price is $4.88, which is four cents lower than last week, 11 cents lower than last month, and 45 cents higher than on this date a year ago.
In Kahului, the average price of $4.96 is the same as last week, two cents lower than last month and 39 cents higher than a year ago. Lihue’s average price for regular is $5.37, which is one cent less than last week, six cents lower than last month, and 64 cents higher than a year ago.
“Hawaii gas prices are inching downward toward the levels of California, which is the second most expensive state for gasoline,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaii general manager. “Today’s Honolulu average price is the same as the San Francisco average price and 14 cents higher per gallon than the average prices for Los Angeles and San Diego.”
