Gas prices dropped substantially in Honolulu and declined at least slightly in other areas statewide over the past week, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. The average regular unleaded gas price for Hawaii is $4.82, which is five cents lower than last week. The average national price is $3.65, which is 12 cents lower than last Thursday.
In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular unleaded is $4.70, which is seven cents lower than last week, two cents higher than last month, and 49 cents lower than the price on this date last year. The Hilo average gas price is $4.97, which is four cents lower than last week, nine cents higher than last month, and 11 cents lower than on this date a year ago.
In Kahului, the average price of $4.83 is one cent lower than last week, one cent higher than last month, and 50 cents lower than a year ago. Lihue’s average price for regular is $5.30, which is three cents lower than last week, the same as last month, and 26 cents lower than a year ago.
“Oil prices did rise briefly on Monday in the wake of the Hamas terrorist attacks in Israel, but have now backed down to nearly the same level as this time last week,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaii general manager.
