Gas prices statewide continue to decrease in most cities following a record-breaking travel independence week, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. The statewide average price for regular unleaded is $4.68, which is one cent lower than last week. The national average gas price is $3.54, three cents higher than last week.
In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular unleaded is $4.55, the same as last week and three cents lower than last year. The Hilo average gas price is $4.83, which is the same as last week and seven cents higher than a year ago.
In Kahului, the average price of $4.70 is four cents lower than last week and eleven cents lower than a year ago. Lihue’s average price for regular is $5.18, which is seven cents lower than last week and eleven cents lower than a year ago. “Gas prices in Hawaii continue to decrease in almost every major city. Apart from Lihue, gas price averages are under five dollars in every city." said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaii general manager.
