After a brief pause in some areas, gas prices began increasing again throughout the islands in the last week, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch.

Today’s statewide average price for regular unleaded is $3.97 a gallon, which is three cents higher than last Thursday, 16 cents higher than a month ago, and 77 cents higher than the average last year on the same date.

In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular unleaded is $3.90, which is up three cents from a week ago, 16 cents higher than last month, and 89 cents higher than the price on this date last year. The Hilo average gas price is $4.04, which is four cents higher than last week, 13 cents higher than last month, and 59 cents higher than on this date a year ago.

In Kahului, the average price is $3.96, which is up two cents compared to last week, 18 cents higher than last month, and 51 cents higher than on this date a year ago. Lihue’s average price for regular is $4.16, which is up four cents from last week, 16 cents higher than last month and 63 cents higher than a year ago today.

“Demand for gasoline continues to increase throughout the islands toward pre-pandemic levels as travel increases, and that is continuing to push up pump prices,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaii general manager.

Motorists can find current gas prices along their route with the free AAA Mobile app for iPhone, iPad and Android. The app can also be used to map a route, find AAA discounts, book a hotel and access AAA Roadside Assistance. Learn more at AAA.com/Mobile.
