AAA Hawaii: Gas Prices Climb With Higher Oil Prices

Average gas prices in most regions climbed by three to four cents compared to last week, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch.  The average price for Hawaii is $4.12, up four cents from last week.  The average national price is $3.24, up five cents from last week.

In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular unleaded is $4.03 which is up three cents from a week ago, five cents higher than a month ago, and 96 cents higher than the price on this date last year. The Hilo average gas price is $4.16, which three cents higher than last week, four cents higher than last month, and 65 cents higher than on this date a year ago.

In Kahului, the average price is $4.18, which is up four cents compared to last week, seven cents higher than last month, and 66 cents higher than on this date a year ago. Lihue’s average price for regular is $4.35, which is three cents higher compared to last week and last month and 75 cents higher than a year ago today.

“We’re seeing the impact of increasingly higher oil prices at the pump,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaii general manager. “Price increases accelerated in most regions.  AAA Hawaii recommends drivers smooth out their driving style, combine errands and remove excess items and weight from the vehicle to save money on gas.”
