Average gas prices in most regions increased again last week but not at the same rate, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. The average price for Hawaii is $4.30, up six cents from last week. The average national price is $3.40, up three cents from last week.
In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular unleaded is $4.22, which is up six cents from a week ago, 22 cents higher than a month ago, and $1.04 higher than the price on this date last year. The Hilo average gas price is $4.32, which is four cents higher than last week, 20 cents higher than last month, and 83 cents higher than on this date a year ago.
In Kahului, the average price is $4.35, which is up four cents compared to last week, 24 cents higher than last month, and 84 cents higher than on this date a year ago. Lihue’s average price for regular is $4.54, which is five cents higher compared to last week, 21 cents higher than last month and 92 cents higher than a year ago today.
“Sustained high oil prices continue to push local gasoline prices higher, but the rate of increase seems to have slowed in recent days,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaii general manager. “The price for the U.S. benchmark oil continues to soften, but remains above $80 per barrel, or more than twice as high as it was compared to the same time last year.”
