Gas prices in Hawaii moved up slightly in most areas over the past week just ahead of the holiday weekend, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. The statewide average price for regular unleaded is $4.47, which is one cent more than last week and 19 cents lower than this time last year. The average national price is $3.21, which is eight cents higher than last week and 19 cents less than a year ago.

In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular unleaded gas is $4.38, which is one cent higher than last week and 12 cents lower than a year ago. The Hilo average gas price is $4.66, which is also one cent higher than last week and 18 cents lower than a year ago.

The average price in Kahului is $4.50, which is seven cents more than last week and 20 cents lower than a year ago. Lihue’s average regular price is $5.01, which is one cent higher than last week and 25 cents lower than a year ago.

“While many other states experienced significant price increases over the last week due to refinery problems, Hawaii prices have continued their pattern of stability,” said Liane Sumida, general manager of AAA Hawaii. “Honolulu drivers are now paying less at the pump than most drivers in California.”

AAA members can take advantage of discounted gas prices at participating Shell gas stations by joining the Shell Fuel Rewards® program.
