AAA has unveiled 121 hotels nationally that earned the AAA Five Diamond Rating in the past 12 months, qualifying them for this year’s AAA Five Diamond Award list. Honorees run the gamut from regal historic inns to sleek high-tech high-rises and sprawling coastal resorts. Of the 121 hotels, four are located in Hawaii.

“Hotels that aim for a AAA Five Diamond rating must differentiate themselves through advanced design concepts, highest quality furnishings and scrupulous attention to guest service,” said AAA Hawaii’s Regional Manager Liane Sumida.  “AAA Hawaii congratulates our state’s four AAA Five Diamond establishments for making exceptional customer service happen every day.”

Hotels receiving a Five Diamond Rating undergo in-person inspections, anonymous overnight stays and, finally, an expert panel review to ensure credibility. Fewer than half of 1 percent of the more than 27,000 AAA Inspected & Approved hotels receive the AAA Five Diamond Rating.

AAA Hawaii also announced the local AAA Four Diamond® ratings, including the Hyatt Centric Waikiki Beach, The Westin Nanea Ocean Villas and the Four Seasons Resort Oahu at Ko Olina, which all received AAA Four Diamond ratings for the first time in 2017.

The AAA Diamond rating system provides consumers with the broadest coverage of any rating system, geographically and by number of properties rated, including the U.S, Canada, Mexico and Caribbean.  AAA began inspecting hotels (and restaurants) in 1937. (The AAA Four and Five Diamond ratings for restaurants will be announced in February.)

Travelers can find Diamond Rated establishments and inspector insight in AAA trip planning products: the  AAA Mobile® app for tablets and smartphones, the TripTik® Travel Planner and Travel Guides on AAA.com and AAA TourBook® guides available at AAA/CAA offices.
